HOW CRAP IS YOUR MEDIA (an occasional series)
I know a lot of you – like me – will be really gutted by the news that the Queen’s not going to Charlie’s wedding. But is there enough coverage of it in the press? I’m not sure there can ever be enough. This morning’s radio news bulletins were great, with concerned newsreaders announcing the papers headlines: “Queen Not Going”, “Queen Not Attending”, “The Queen’s Not Going to the Wedding”, the Sun “Queen Won’t Go to the Wedding” with apicture of the Queen looking like some NOT going to a wedding ad nauseam. Fantastic. This is crap media reporting crap media. But what else is going on the same day as this momentous story is filling our airwaves and jamming our media outlets? Oh yes, of course this is the very day the govt is bringing in the biggest changes to our legal liberties in two hundred years! The Prevention of Terrorism Bill was published on Tuesday. It proposes "control orders", which would mean house arrest in the most serious cases, and curfews, electronic tagging and limits on telephone and internet access for other suspects. Aw well, never mind what hat do you think Camilla Parker Fuckwit will be wearing?
