IT’S NOT TABLE LEGS THAT KILL PEOPLE – IT’S COPS
Caught between ‘Teflon Geff’ Hoon’s hilarious (but clearly heart-felt) plea for more respect for MPs and the Harry Stanley story.
Six years ago Harry Stanley was shot and killed after a ‘tip-off’ (“There’s a guy down the pub here with a blue bag, I think you better shoot him…”?).
Only last month, Chief Inspector Neil Sharman, 42, and Constable Kevin Fagan, 38, the two Metropolitan police marksmen concerned, succeeded in overturning an inquest verdict of unlawful killing. But yesterday they were arrested after new forensic evidence came to light following a re-examination of existing material.
For me the key is a) the tip off - they actually reported 'an Irishman carrying a shotgun' and b) the shocking and frankly illegal interjections of the police who seem to be giving a running commentary on the case. What ‘a’ tells you about the state of paranoid insularity and parochialism in English culture and ‘b’ tells you about the wider culture of (irr) responsibility in circles of elite rule is telling.
The lack of a truly independent police complaints authority is a disgrace and a farce.
