Tmesis
Tmesis: the interjection of a word into another. Jesus H Christ. Abso-fucking-lutely. That kind of thing.
It's also referred to as diacope, or tumbarumba. Wordsmiths and fancy-dans sometimes describe tmesis as a form of 'infixing'. Or so I have been informed. I can see readers in the back row of the interweb nodding off, I mean christ we're almost back to the bloody semi-colon debate!
Language is all in politics. That mad bastard Ian Paisley was good at this sort of thing, coining the politically useful "Sinn Fein-IRA" and spitting it into a microphone whenever he could. You couldn’t for instance start referring to New Clear Labour or Union Jack McConnell.
Speaking of New Clear Labour…
Scottish Parliament Motion S2M-3376
Ms Rosemary Byrne: Opposition to Nuclear Power — That the Parliament states its total opposition to nuclear power as a means of energy production; totally opposes any suggestion of building new nuclear power stations in Scotland;acknowledges that recent research, in a UK context, suggests that nuclear power would produce about 50 per cent more global warming emissions than wind power and that nuclear power does not hold any financial benefits compared with the development of renewable energy; accepts that the technology of nuclear power is intimately connected with the technology used to make nuclear weapons and that nuclear facilities are uniquely vulnerable to terrorist attack; recognises that nuclear power produces waste which remains dangerous for tens of thousands of years and that nuclear power leads to radioactive discharges into the seas and atmosphere; notes the recent report from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority which estimates that decommissioning costs could be up to £56 billion, and therefore calls on the Scottish Executive to state categorically that no nuclear power stations will be built in Scotland.
Supported by: Brian Adam, Chris Ballance
There's not a chance in hell of Byrne, Adam & Ballance's motion being accepted or preventing New Clear Labour of going ahead with Blair's nuclear nightmare. But if they do it will surely unite all forces against the British State and for a sustainable Scotland against them, and must signal the start of the biggest ciil disobedience campaign since the Poll Tax.
