Official: Colin Fox is an Arse
News that John McAllion is standing in Dunfermline and West Fife is a big boost for the Scottish Socialist Party which need it after their leader confirmed that he is a total donkey with his claim that the saltire should be replaced by a 'rainbow flag'.
His recent pantomime politics badly backfired after being denounced by the very ethnic groups he thought he was wooing. Bashir Ahmad, the SNP Councillor for Pollokshields East and former President of the Pakistani Welfare Trust, described the SSP leader's calls for the Saltire to be scrapped as "ludicrous". Cllr Bashir was commenting after Colin Fox, the leader of the SSP, suggested the considerable Asian population felt uncomfortable with the Saltire as Scotland's national flag.
Commenting Cllr Bashir said: "Colin Fox obviously knows nothing about the Scottish Asian community if he thinks we feel uncomfortable about our Scottishness and the Saltire. As a Scots Asian I can tell him we are extremely proud of our Scottishness and the Saltire.
"In fact as former President of the Pakistani Welfare Trust I was particularly proud to have the Saltire and Pakistani flag stand side by side on the podium of our conference and for the last 15 years at
our annual dinners. For Mr Fox to suggest we reject the Saltire is therefore profoundly arrogant and wrong. That feeling of comfort will not be shaken by any silly initiatives by Mr Fox or the equally bizarre notion of imposed Britishness conveyed by Chancellor Gordon Brown.
"Asian Scots are passionately patriotic about Scotland and would not even consider ditching a much loved symbol like the Saltire. Mr Fox's comments may be ridiculous but there is a danger that he may give unwitting ammunition to dark forces who would seek to question our loyalty to Scotland."
Fox appears to be losing the battle within the SSP to articulate a clear backing for a Scottish Republic, increasingly backed across the party and wider political spectrum, as this letter to the Scotish Voice testifies:
Dear Mr Fox
Stunned to read in the newspaper today your intention to propose a motion to scrap the Saltire.
As a Scottish Socialist, and as a (subs-in-arrears) member of the SSP, and until today at least a recent though very willing volunteer in the Glasgow Kinning Park SSP office, and as someone who has spent over 30 years working at every level for a Socialist Scotland I am absolutely scunnered that you - and I presume your Parliamentary "Party" colleagues - can do this much damage so quickly, and so deliberately, to a Party which more than any other could have made such an important contribution to Scottish Politics.
I can assure you that I am no racist, nor am I a Christian, and nor am I a fool. I am a thoroughly committed Marxist.
Would you not be better put coming up with something actually relevant, rather than this type of absolute - and whether you like it or not - offensive drivel.
Do yourself a favour Colin.
Do your Party a favour Colin.
Do Scotland a favour Colin.
Stop promoting yourself in this stupid, stupid, stupid way, and get on with fighting for our country. Leave the flag alone. You are shooting the SSP in the head. Though I have a suspicion now you are quite aware of that.
What a staggering insult you are proposing. Its even more staggering that you seem to be so embarrassingly drunk with your own importance - or should that really be impotence (Political impotence of course)- that you cannot see it yourself.
Perhaps you should take it as an indication that something serious is wrong when none of those people around you have pointed this out.
Shame on you. Shame on them.
Yours for a Socialist Scotland
Henry Daly
