Havana, Feb 16 - Cuban President Fidel Castro attended the presentation of the book Operación Cóndor, Pacto criminal (Operation Condor: Criminal Pact) by Argentine journalist and author Stella Calloni.

At the Jose Marti Anti-Imperialist Tribune, right in front of the US Interests Section in Havana (USINT), a gathering of students, literature lovers, political leaders and guests listened to Ms. Calloni.

Her initial words included good news of the discovery of grandson 82 of the Mothers and Grandmothers of Argentine Plaza de Mayo, who fight to find children missing since the military dictatorship in that country.

She also revealed that first steps are being taken to try the known butchers of the Argentina dictatorship from 1976 to 1983, like Jorge Videla, Mario Benjamín Menéndez, Alcides Bossi and others.

Operation Condor was a vast operation by Latin American arch conservatives, a conspiracy of CIA, Cuban counter-revolutionaries and French Secret Service, aimed at wiping out progressive dissent in the region.

Calloni explained the former originated from Operation Fénix (Phoenix), which the US used with counter-insurgents in Vietnam.

She delved into the immense operation, listing its victims like Chilean General Carlos Prats and his wife, Senator Bernardo Leighton, Uruguayan legislators Zelmar Michelini and Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz, former Chilean foreign minister Orlando Letelier and his secretary, US Ronnie Moffit, President of Panama Omar Torrijos and Ecuador Jaime Roldós Aguiler, Bolivian General Juan José Torres y el Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme.
